There are some things that people would not ordinarily think can result in some blocked drains, but they do. And those things are what I am about to show you in this article.

Three major causes of blocked drains are as follows:

  1. Soap Mixed with Water: The average person would be astonished to hear that soap can lead to blocked drains. How? Some soap we use has a lot of mineral and grease in them, and when the solvent mixes with water, it can cause a clog in your drainage pipe.

  2. Hair in The Drain: Hair is one major cause of blocked drains. When hair, even if it is just a strand gets into your drain, it is capable of causing a clog, by holding back every other thing that comes into the drain.

  3. Grease: Your drainage pipe is just meant for water and nothing else. So, if you allow food particles with grease go into the drain, you are calling for a blocked drain. This includes all food particles or any greasy stuff no matter how tiny it may be. When food particles get into the drain, it is capable of building up and resulting in a blocked drain.

How to Prevent Blocked Drains -

  1. Maintenance: If you are not a plumber, schedule a maintenance program with a plumber. This way any foreign object capable of causing a blocked drain would be detected early enough. This maintenance can be done weekly or monthly depending on how busy your household is.

  2. Use Liquid Soap: Soaps can block our drains quite a lot of times, but we cannot stop ourselves from using soap. Can we? So, you should know that liquid soaps are less capable of blocking the drains than bar soaps. So, if you are trying to prevent blocked drains, use liquid soap.

  3. Get a stopper for your drain: If you want to save yourself from the anxiety and save your time and money that go with blocked drains, then you shouldn’t hesitate to get a stopper for your ducts. This stopper for drains would help prevent unwanted particles from going down the pipe. And if you already have one, but still find out that your drain is blocked, it could be that you don’t clean it regularly. If you want to prevent blocked drains, you have to wash you stopper every time. You shouldn’t allow residue to remain in it.

Now you have seen that preventing blocked drains is not impossible. All you need to do is to guide against those habits that can clog the drain. If you have experienced a blocked drain before, you would agree that it is something pleasant. People who have experienced a blocked drain wouldn’t want it to happen again. If you haven’t had that experience yet, now you have a chance to prevent it from happening.

Of course, preventing it from happening doesn’t cost much, but trying to unblock a drain is not cheap. Some people who work to solve a drain problem themselves without calling the expert may end up compounding the clog. Therefore, if you think that the problem is big and needs experts’ help, do not avoid hiring an experienced plumber.
